More stuff stolen

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Sumbitch. Not only has somebody stolen my power washer, but they stole my triangular sander, too.
I was going to do some sanding on the deck this afternoon, but after going through Grandma’s care-level review (an annual ordeal) and finding more stuff stolen from the garage, I have lost all enthusiasm. I want medicinal chocolate.

Adventures in smuggling

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

This requires a tish of background. Y’all haven’t met this branch of the family: Kathleen and Duane, my first cousins on Grandma’s side (Kathleen’s mom was my Aunt Helen, Grandma’s sister), and their five kids (and now spouses, all second cousins) and their children (third cousins). Kathleen is nearly 20 years older than I, I […]

The unnameable object

*trumpet fanfare* Ta-daaaaa! *end trumpet fanfare*
Chris said I couldn’t do this, and I think Ryan did, too. At least, Chris said he didn’t think it could be done without messing with the stair-support structure, which I’m certainly not capable of doing. Ricky just opted out (he’s allowed, what with balancing a job, college classes, and […]

B-i-g banana slug

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

I have a philosophical affinity for these guys, since they’re native to the area and the Ugly Nasty Black Slugs ™ aren’t. I try to kill the UNBS ™ and leave the banana slugs alone. Until, at least, all the little slugs start looking like b-slugs, in which case I’ll have to stomp them, too. […]

Weird dip

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

So I’m put in charge of cooking Thanksgiving dinner, and I’m about 10 years old and in my grandma’s kitchen. I decide a dip is a good thing to start with (I don’t know that I’d ever heard of “dip” at that age), so I put some cream cheese in a little 2-oz. bowl and […]

Trip to London

Friday, August 18th, 2006

I wound up on a flight to London with two families I didn’t know, both with very young children. We landed at Heathrow and I was really excited, since I hadn’t expected ever to make it to England. We got out of the parking lot by walking and the signs were really confusing, but […]

Grannies, moose, and cameras

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Early this a.m., I dreamed that I’d gone to Granny Eileen’s along with several other people, all of whom I knew (probably all Grannies). Instead of the house she really has, this one was big and sprawling, way back in the woodsy mountains with no neighbors for 10 miles or more, in a big clearing […]

Yarn change

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Family and friends, this will bore you to tears, so go read about Grandma.
This photo contains three sets of marks, two black and one white. I actually changed yarn three times in this section, but could only find two of the changeovers (the black marks). The white marks are where I think the […]

Surreal time in the ER

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

So Grandma falls over again yesterday, this time at a reasonable hour (read: I get to go to ER when the moon isn’t shining). The nurse at her complex tells me she’s in a lot of pain, so when I get to ER I expect to see her curled up and silent.
What I find is […]

Blueberry run amok

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Above is one of my three half-size blueberry bushes, one branch of which has run seriously amok. The white oval shows the main plant, which until this year was very well behaved and about the size it is now. This year, the monster killer branch (orange arrow) shot out and its leaves are at […]

Into the netherworld

Friday, August 11th, 2006

So I got seriously sucked into this one, and wasted WAY too much time on it. But I laughed out loud repeatedly, and disturbed the dog and the woodpeckers at one point. Read the archives.
