Old, creepy and weird

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The fact that my body is getting old and decrepit doesn’t bother me much, except when it gets in the way of something I want to do. I expect it to do that. That’s what happens to any critter that doesn’t die young.
But some of the things it’s doing as it staggers along that path […]

Speaking sharply

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Dear Physics,

You know that I appreciate many, many things about you. You keep my car on the road when I go around a sharp curve. You keep my feet on the ground and make sure I float when I fall in the ocean. You keep the bridges up between here and Son2, so I can […]

‘The Informant’ was funny

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

True-sorta story about a guy who gave the FBI the best-ever evidence of international price-fixing it could possibly have gotten, then screwed the case up horrifically and beyond redemption. Very funny, and Matt Damon as a … wait, I can’t say that, it’s a spoiler. Anyway, it’s much more worth seeing than “9.”

“9″ ain’t the score on a 1 to 10 scale

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Skip Tim Burton’s new flick, “9.” Rob is convinced Burton’s a genius and just hasn’t yet managed to say what he wants to say. I’m not convinced; his stuff is so uneven, running from really good to just plain sucky. He missed it in this one, too.
The animation and CG are great. The story is […]

Awesome party

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Last night’s dream involved a huge, sprawling, magnificent party at Snaotheus’s and KrisDi’s (note: I have yet to be invited to such a party. . .). All of Snaotheus’s friends, spouses / partners if applicable (or not) and children were there—even a tiny Monocular Ben, with his own tiny monocule. Yes! Entertainment consisted of amazing […]

Fitting debracles

Disclaimer: Son-types, you will probably want to skip this entry as it is entirely TMI for your tender psyches. Daughter-types, legal and adopted, and girl friends may not have the “ewww!” reaction, since I understand this issue cuts across demarcations of size, age, and political persuasion. Regardless of your category, proceed at your own risk.

The idiots are in charge

Friday, September 4th, 2009

If I get any weaker, I swear, I’ll keel over and never be able to stir again.
I hear on the radio while driving down the road some fruitcake woman—a teacher—in Texas who, along with many of her teaching colleagues, refused to allow her class to watch Obama’s speech to school children. Never mind that two […]
